Position Description
POSITION: Teacher of English and Humanities (Geography would be viewed favourably).
RESPONSIBLE TO: Principal.
REPORTS TO: Head of Teaching and Learning through Heads of Department English and Humanities
KEY FUNCTIONAL RELATIONSHIPS: Head of Teaching and Learning, Heads of Department English and Humanities; Teachers; Students; Parent.

Position Overview
The Teacher of English and Humanities works under the guidance of the Heads of Department – English and Humanities and is a key contributor to the College’s academic and wellbeing program. You will be part of a collaborative and contemporary team focused on best practice in teaching, active engagement in professional learning and shared mission to see girls flourish.
This role includes responsibility beyond the classroom, including involvement in Holme Group (wellbeing), co-curricular activities, and potentially supporting boarders through evening pre supervision.
Key Responsibilities
1. Living the Ethos
- Model and uphold the Christian values of Fairholme College in professional and person conduct.
- Support the College’s relational and restorative culture through positive engagement with students and colleagues.
- Participate actively in wellbeing, co-curricular programs and the broader life of the College.
- Show understanding of, and care for, the specific needs of boarding students.
2. Pedagogical Excellence
- Inspire students through high-impact, evidence informed, and creative teaching practices.
- Differentiate instructions to support diverse learning needs and strengths.
- Confidently integrate digital tools, including Schoolbox, to support learning and communication.
- Develop and deliver engaging lessons aligned to the Australian Curriculum and QCAA syllabi.
- Provide timely and constructive assessment and feedback in accordance with College policies.
- Collaborate with departmental colleagues to drive innovation and continual improvement in English teaching.
3. Curriculum and Professional Knowledge
- Maintain a current and working knowledge of relevant QCAA Senior syllabi, including endorsement and confirmation processes.
- Show currency in the Australian Curriculum for Years 7-10.
- Actively pursue relevant professional development and maintain professional standards.
Selection Criteria
Applicants must address the following in their application:
- Commitment to Christian Education and Girls’ Learning:
Demonstrated alignment with the values and ethos of a Christian school and a clear understanding of the context and benefits of girls’ education. - Teaching and Curriculum Knowledge:
Proven capacity to teach English and Humanities across Years 7-12, with a strong working knowledge of the Australian Curriculum and QCAA Senior syllabi. - Engaging and Responsive Pedagogy:
Ability to implement differentiated, student-centered strategies and utilise digital tools to maximise engagement and achievement. - Collaborative and Professional Contribution:
Willingness to ngage in team teaching, contribute to department and school-wide initiatives, and participate fully in the life of the College.

- The ability to work collaboratively with work colleagues, and to communicate clearly and enthusiastically with staff, students, and families.

Workplace Health and Safety
As a member of the College, the successful applicant is required to follow all workplace, health and safety requirements that include but are not limited to:
- Adherence to and working knowledge of policy requirements;
- Cooperation with audit, professional learning and training/drill processes;
- Meticulous attention to reporting responsibilities and record-keeping obligations in relation to all workplace, health and safety matters.
