Fairholme Kindergarten offers a rich play-based program, for girls and boys who turn 3 years of age, prior to their commencement at Kindy.

Exceeding the National Quality Standard in all areas, Fairholme Kindy has been offering an engaging play based program to support children’s learning and development since 2002.

Nestled within the beautiful grounds of Fairholme College, our Kindergarten provides a nurturing and inspiring environment where young learners can grow, explore and thrive.

Fairholme Kindy offers a gentle transition from home to a safe, secure and supportive group setting, guided by experienced, enthusiastic, highly qualified and consistent educators who ensure every child feels known and valued.

Our warm, well-equipped learning spaces are surrounded by a nature rich environment, creating endless opportunities for curiosity, play and discovery. Children enjoy a rich and varied program that includes specialist lessons in music, dance, physical education, gymnastics and library, as well as an Auslan (Australian sign language) program introducing them to basic signing.

As part of the Fairholme College community, our Kindy children have access to the wider school facilities such as the Fairholme Junior library, gymnasium, school oval and playgrounds, and they love regular visits from the 'big girls', developing a strong sense of belonging and connection to the wider school.

A Kindy uniform further builds that sense of connection, while before and after school care and holiday programs are conveniently provided by TeamKids.

Learning is enriched through exciting excursions and incursions, thoughtfully designed to extend children's understanding and inspire new interests.

At Fairholme Kindergarten, every day is filled with opportunities to wonder, connect and grow.

Discovery through active play

We believe play is a valuable learning opportunity for all young children. It is how they engage, interact and discover the world around them.

At Fairholme Kindy, play is an essential part of our program. Our Kindy educators observe the child’s play, listen to their ideas, encourage and support interactions, and add resources and materials to extend and build on these interests and fascinations.

Purposeful play, along with planned experiences and routines, offer opportunities to build on your child’s current understandings and lead them to new knowledge, ideas and skills.

Play provides many social interactions that support the development of friendship skills, collaborative relationships and empathy.

Specialist lessons

Our Kindergarten children regularly participate in a wide variety of regular specialist lessons.

Fairholme Kindy specialist lessons include:

  • Weekly visits to Greta Junior (Junior School Library) to borrow books and participate in storytelling session with our Greta Junior Staff
  • Music and dance lessons with the Fairholme Junior Performing Arts Teacher
  • Lessons each week with the Fairholme Junior Physical Education Specialist Teacher, developing fundamental movement skills
  • Gymnastics classes during Term 3, run by qualified coaches from Allstar Gymnastic Academy.

Well-equipped learning spaces

Our indoor and outdoor spaces at Fairholme Kindy are carefully designed to engage the senses, foster curiosity, and encourage active exploration and discovery.

Our natural play environments provide opportunities for your child to take an active role in becoming environmentally aware and responsible.

Being part of the Fairholme College community, our Kindergarten children also benefit from access to our wider school facilities, such as the Fairholme Junior Library, school oval, gymnasium and playgrounds.

A day at Fairholme Kindy

Routines offer children a sense of security and stability, however they also need to be flexible to respond to the groups needs and the opportunities presented throughout the day.

Generally each day, the children will spend a large block of time inside and outside allowing for the development of play interests.

Group times, morning tea and lunch are occasions to come together as a class and share books, stories, dance, chats, songs, rhymes and common interests.

We see mealtimes as a social event and encourage the children to chat together and with the educators. There is also time each day for some quiet relaxation or a sleep if required.

Each week the children will have a specialist music, PE and library lesson. We also make the most of opportunities presented by the school to build on our program by observing a concert, participating in sports carnivals, visiting the arts rooms or other such events that suit our program and group of children.
