Join the Fairholme Equestrian team!

Fairholme College is proud to be home to one of Queensland’s most successful school equestrian programs. With an outstanding record, including five consecutive Interschool Queensland Overall Secondary Champion titles and the prestigious Lorette Wigan Cup (2021–2025), our team has built a reputation for excellence, dedication, and school spirit.

Whether your daughter is just starting her equestrian journey or already competing at state or national level, Fairholme Equestrian offers the support, coaching, and opportunities she needs to thrive.

Fairholme Equestrian welcomes riders from Junior, Middle and Senior School levels. Both Boarders and Daygirls are encouraged to join and girls do not have to be riding at competition level to choose Equestrian as their sport. All that's required is a love of equestrian and a horse.

Our program is built to be inclusive:

  • Coaching at all levels - from beginners through to advanced competitors.
  • Boarder support - with agistment options and transport to and from horses.
  • Daygirl flexibility - train with the team or simply compete as part of the team.

What do you need to be on the Fairholme Equestrian Team?

  • Your own horse
  • A desire to compete in your selected discipline/s
  • Does not matter what level you are – walk trot or jumping 120cm. All students are welcome.
  • Parent/guardians support
  • Be a Competitive Junior Member of Equestrian Queensland.

Weekly Coaching

Fairholme Boarders have access to weekly coaching with Equestrian Australia-accredited coaches, who provide expert guidance across all disciplines. The girls travel out to their horses at the agistment facility to ride up to four times a week. This coaching is also open for the Day Girls if they want to join in.

For those families who would rather keep their horses at home, and distance prevents them from being involved in coaching, the girls may still compete and represent Fairholme College provided they are prepared to be involved in a few team building occasions. There are many Interschool Queensland (IQ) qualifying days held during the year, some locally and some closer to, or in, Brisbane.

Competitive Opportunities

The Fairholme College Equestrian team competes in Interschool Queensland (IQ) events, run by schools within the Darling Downs Region.

Disciplines the team can compete in are:

  • Dressage

  • Eventing

Our team has a proud tradition of success, consistently qualifying riders for State and National Championships. In 2023, Fairholme was awarded Equestrian Queensland School of the Year and in 2025, for the fifth consecutive year, the Fairholme Equestrian team was awarded the esteemed Lorette Wigan Cup – presented to the secondary school that accumulates the highest number of points throughout the State Championships.
