The Position
Position: Maintenance & Grounds Officer
RESPONSIBLE TO: Principal through the Business Manager, Facilities Manager
REPORTS TO: Maintenance Manager
The Person
We seek a committed, highly professional and appropriately qualified Maintenance & Grounds Officer to join the College community.
The ideal candidate will:
- Support positively the Christian ethos, values and mission of Fairholme College;
- Hold qualifications appropriate for the position;
- Have experience in performing maintenance and grounds operations and have a working knowledge of facilities, machinery and equipment;
- Be an effective communicator with the ability to develop positive relationships with all stakeholders;
- Be experienced and skilled in working as part of a team with a diversity of personnel;
- Possess strong problem-solving and conflict resolution skills and be able to operate within a restorative practices environment.
Position Overview
The Maintenance & Grounds Officer is responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of the College grounds and Facilities, reporting directly to the Facilities Manager. The Maintenance & Grounds Officer must possess solid practical skills, and have the ability to work in a team environment. The Maintenance & Grounds Officer will be a “jack of all trades” with the ability to perform a diverse range of duties.
Key Areas:
The Maintenance & Grounds Officer is required to undertake the duties specified in the following areas:
Maintenance and Grounds:
- Daily maintenance and upkeep of the College facilities and grounds, ensuring tasks are completed in a timely matter;
- Be involved in the development and implementation of maintenance procedures;
- Prioritise repairs & maintenance of the College’s assets;
- Perform minor repairs & maintenance;
- Maintain, service, clean and properly store equipment;
- Ensure adherence to quality standards and WHS regulations;
- Perform other related duties and activities as required.
Manufacture and Buildings:
- Assist the Facilities Manager with the completion of minor projects throughout the college when required.
Events and Additional Duties:
- Setting up of venues (assemblies, functions, sporting activities, Spring Fair);
- Assist with traffic control when required.
Other Requirements:
- A current blue card, first aid currency and appropriate qualifications are required.;
- The College may require the Maintenance & Grounds Officer to undertake other duties from time to time (subject to the person’s ability to perform such duties) and in keeping with their role.

Communication Skills
The ability to work collaboratively with work colleagues, and to communicate clearly and enthusiastically with staff, students, and families as well as give demonstrated support to and enactment of a restorative practices approach to conflict resolution is required for all staff.

Selection Process
