REPORTS TO: Head of Junior School

Position Overview
Junior School Teachers at Fairholme College are key contributors to the academic, wellbeing and co-curricular life of the College. Working under the guidance of the Head of Junior School, they are responsible for planning, delivering and assessing engaging learning programs aligned to the Australian Curriculum, and for fostering the wellbeing, personal growth and confidence of every girl in their care.
Junior School teachers are expected to actively engage with the Christian ethos of the College and contribute to its positive culture, both within and beyond the classroom.
Key Responsibilities
The Junior School Classroom Teacher, under the direction of the Head of Junior School, will assume the following set of key responsibilities within College operations:
1. Living the Ethos
- Model and uphold the Christian values of Fairholme College in professional and person conduct.
- Provide positive role modelling in manner, dress, communication and interactions with students, colleagues and families.
- Engage actively in the wider life of the College – including assemblies, events, worship and the College’s wellbeing program.
- Demonstrate relational pedagogy, positive behaviour support, and a restorative approach to student engagement and wellbeing.
2. Teaching and Learning Excellence
- Plan, prepare and deliver engaging, effective and differentiated programs aligned to the Australian Curriculum and College priorities.
- Create a classroom culture that nurtures curiosity, critical thinking and a love of learning.
- Incorporate age-appropriate use of digital tools, including Schoolbox, to enhance communication and learning.
- Provide timely, accurate and constructive feedback and assessment.
- Maintain high expectations for students’ effort, achievement and behaviour.
- Work collaboratively with year level teams and specialist staff to enhance learning outcomes and inclusion practices.
3. Student Wellbeing and Development
- Take primary responsibility for the wellbeing of students in their class, including supporting emotional regulation, social development and positive relationships.
- Maintain open, timely communication with families, including learning updates, formal and informal reporting, and wellbeing support.
- Build strong partnerships with parents to support each student’s learning journey.
- Seek advice or refer students to appropriate support services when required.
4. Professional Development and Reflection
- Actively participate in professional learning programs aligned to College priorities.
- Stay up to date with curriculum developments, teaching practice and educational research.
- Contribute to the professional growth of colleagues by sharing resources, strategies and feedback.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress, curriculum planning and assessment.
5. Co-curricular Contribution
- Support and supervise at lease one co-curricular activity per year, contributing to the rich life of the College beyond the classroom.
- Attend relevant events including parent-teacher interviews, camps, excursions, Chapel, Assemblies and presentation evenings.
Selection Criteria
Applicants must address the following in their application:
- Commitment to Christian Education and Girls’ Learning:
Demonstrated alignment with the values and ethos of a Christian school and a clear understanding of the context and benefits of girls’ education. - Teaching and Curriculum Expertise:
Demonstrated success in planning and delivering high-quality, developmentally appropriate learning experiences in a primary context. - Relational and Responsive Practice:
Capacity to build strong relationships with students and families, implement inclusive and supportive behaviour practices, and promote a culture of care and high expectations. - Collaborative and Professional Contribution:
Willingness to contribute to a team-based approach to planning, wellbeing and co-curricular involvement, while maintaining ongoing engagement in professional learning.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Relevant education degree and Queensland College of Teachers (QCT) registration.
- First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Experience in using digital platforms to support learning and communication is highly desirable.

Communication Skills
- The ability to work collaboratively with work colleagues, and to communicate clearly and enthusiastically with staff, students, and families.

Workplace Health and Safety
As a member of the College, the successful applicant is required to follow all workplace, health and safety requirements that include but are not limited to:
- Adherence to and working knowledge of policy requirements;
- Cooperation with audit, professional learning and training/drill processes;
- Meticulous attention to reporting responsibilities and record-keeping obligations in relation to all workplace, health and safety matters.
