As they enter Years 10, 11 & 12 our girls are deliberately prepared to launch confidently into life beyond Fairholme.
All Fairholme students are supported individually to make informed decisions about their current and future work, study and career options.
Through our dedicated Pathways Centre and the SET Planning process, each Fairholme student is assisted in mapping out an individualised action plan tailored to meet their personal aspirations, interests and potential.
This can include assistance with:
- career education activities
- work experience
- acquiring school-based traineeships/apprenticeships
- exploring and completing vocational education qualifications
- attending university showcases and road trips
- participating in mock interviews
- University Clinical Aptitude Test (UCAT) mastery sessions
- researching and completing tertiary qualifications whilst still at Fairholme College
- careers mentoring
Specialist Elective Program
Gaining dynamic, real-world experience while earning a valuable Vocational Education qualification.
Our Year 10 students participate in our Specialist Elective Program, which provides dedicated time within the Year 10 timetable for students to explore a wide range of Certificate II, III, IV and Diploma qualifications.
Senior Education Training (SET) Plan
Briefly in Year 9 and more formally in Year 10, students begin the Student Education and Training (SET) Plan process to assist in mapping out their Senior School years and career pathway. This is a compulsory education requirement and is a prerequisite for enrolling into some Registered Training Organisations (RTO).
At Fairholme College, our SET Plan team consists of our Head of Teaching and Learning, College Careers Specialist, Vocational Education Training Coordinator and other key staff. These staff meet together regularly with each student throughout their senior academic career to ensure that all students have a realistic and achievable set of goals during their Senior School phase of learning.
A student’s SET Plan will include:
- Compulsory work experience
- Volunteering and youth development programs
- Higher Education in Australia and Higher Education overseas
- Vocational Education Training including school-based apprenticeships, traineeships and TAFE.
Pathways Week
Our Year 10 students trade the classroom for real-world workplaces during Pathways Week.
This annual work experience program, delivered by the Fairholme Pathways Centre, offers students the chance to explore industries they've been curious about or discover new passions.
Students from Years 11 & 12 can also participate in work experience during school holidays with the College offering support for placements and completion of mandatory work experience paperwork.
Careers Development Framework
All Careers Development activities, sessions and discussions at Fairholme College underpin the information from the Australian Blueprint for Career Development which offers a framework for creating, strengthening and evaluating careers development programs for young people and adults.
The Blueprint identifies eleven career management competencies that help people manage life, learning about work from childhood to old age.
The eleven competencies span across three learning areas:
- Personal Management
- Learning and work exploration
- Career building
The competencies promote intentional career development, lifelong learning and life/work balance.
Whilst Careers Development is a key focus in the Senior School, the Junior and Middle School students are also offered opportunities to develop their own personal competencies through intentional career development sessions that are delivered throughout the Junior and Middle School curriculums.
