Position Description
POSITION: Teacher of Dance.
RESPONSIBLE TO: Principal through Head of Teaching and Learning.
REPORTS TO: Head of the Arts
KEY FUNCTIONAL RELATIONSHIPS: Head of Teaching and Learning, Head of the Arts, Arts staff; Teachers; Students; Parents.
We seek a committed, highly professional, and experienced teacher to accept the role of Teacher of Dance. The ideal candidate will support and positively model the Christian ethos, values, and mission of Fairholme College, be an exemplary teacher of this important discipline – across all secondary levels.
The College
Set in an area of outstanding natural beauty on the Range escarpment in Australia's Garden City of Toowoomba, Fairholme College is one of Australia's leading independent girls' schools with more than eight hundred students from Kindy to Year 12 and over two hundred boarders form part of the total enrolment.

Position Overview
The Teacher of Dance, under the direction of the Head of the Arts, will assume the following set of key responsibilities within the College’s operations.

Ethos, Values and Culture
- Demonstrate support for and personal alliance with the College’s Christian values and ethos.
- Be a positive and engaged member of the Arts Department - someone who enjoys working collaboratively and contributing broadly, to enhance opportunities for students’ growth in the Arts.
- Show an active interest in, experience with, and/or support for the delivery of quality girls’ education.
- Have clear experience with/ or interest in the specific needs of boarding students and their families and experience working with them in and out of the classroom.
- Demonstrate preparedness to undertake supervision of Prep (Boarder homework), engage positively and supportively as a Holme Group teacher, and contribute to the life of the College through the classroom and through the wider co-curricular program.
Pedagogical Expertise
- Be suitably qualified and a registered teacher in Queensland.
- Have a current and expansive working knowledge and understanding of the Australian Curriculum, QCAA processes as well as QCE requirements. Experience in endorsement and confirmation processes would be seen advantageously.
- Have a passionate interest in Dance as a curricular and co-curricular subject as well as a vision for its interaction with other Arts disciplines. Be willing to work in both areas of Dance delivery.
- Be well-organised and innovative in approach to teaching and learning practices and able to inspire students to stretch their learning capacity through a repertoire of diverse pedagogical strategies, including differentiation of the curriculum to meet the needs of all learners in Dance, and another subject area.
- Be knowledgeable about the specific learning needs of boarding students and astute in devising appropriate support.
- Enact timely and efficient processes and procedures in relation to feedback delivery for students in relation to class work, reporting and assessment.
- Be creative in thought; abreast of current educational trends and research – particularly in relation to Dance.
- Use technologies effectively in the Dance program, including the College’s learning management platform – Schoolbox.
Other Duties
This role description has been developed to indicate the general nature and level of work performed by employees within this role. It is not designed to contain or to be interpreted as a comprehensive inventory of all duties, responsibilities and requirements of employees assigned to this role. By nature of the focus of this position, as well as the responsibilities inherent, the workload can be unpredictable. All teachers undertake eight nights of PREP (boarder homework supervision) each year. Further, the Principal may require the Teacher of Dance to undertake other duties from time to time (subject to the person’s ability to perform such duties) and in keeping with their role.

- The ability to work collaboratively with work colleagues, and to communicate clearly and enthusiastically with staff, students, and families.

As a member of the College, the successful applicant is required to follow all workplace, health and safety requirements that include but are not limited to:
- Adherence to and working knowledge of policy requirements;
- Cooperation with audit, professional learning and training/drill processes;
- Meticulous attention to reporting responsibilities and record-keeping obligations in relation to all workplace, health and safety matters.
The Package
The appointment is currently under the conditions of the Fairholme College Collective Agreement (2022) and will attract proportional time release and remuneration commensurate with qualifications and experience.
