Gift of Music

Isabel Fitton was in Grade 7 when she decided Music was her future. Her strong desire to further her studies found her applying for a scholarship at Fairholme College.

“I auditioned for the Marjorie Milliken Music (MMM) Scholarship at Fairholme College. The audition process entailed an interview and performance before a selection panel.”

Isabel fit the build. She was passionate about Music and was motivated to maintain sound academic grades, and has since become a very worthy recipient.

“My greatest success this year was being awarded Ordine Tertia for academic achievement, and being honoured with the role of Captain of Instrumental Music for 2017.”

In addition, Isabel has achieved a High Distinction in AMEB Grade 4 Music Theory and, in November, sat for her Grade 8 AMEB examination in cello. The 16 year old plans to complete her AMusA in 2017.

“The MMM Scholarship has afforded me the opportunity to extend my music education beyond that which may otherwise not have been available to me. It has given me opportunities outside the standard curriculum by providing support for private tuition, manuscript materials, music camps and external performances.”

A scholarship at Fairholme often provides students with the motivation needed to succeed and extend their involvement and skills in their chosen areas of interest.

But, as Isabel says, it extends much further than academic, sporting or musical success.

“The best thing about Fairholme College for me has been friendships formed, interaction with like-minded peers and caring teachers whose dedication and commitment has been inspirational.”
