Fairholme Throwers Excel in Perth

With the six day Australian Junior Athletics Championships drawing to a close on Sunday, the Fairholme throws contingent of Bella McLoughlin, Ellie Bowyer and Samantha Lenton have left no doubt that they are well on the way to becoming the next generation of Australia’s top throwers.

The three girls returned from Perth on Sunday evening with 11 Australian Championship medals amongst them. Thirteen year old Bella McLoughlin, half the size of her competitors, produced an Australian Championship Meet Record to win Gold in the U/14 Hammer with a throw of 42.83m. Not content with her win in the U/14 event, Bella took out the Gold medal in the U/15 division as well. With silver in the U/14 shot and bronze in the U/14 Discus, the young thrower returns from Perth with 4 Australian Championship medals.

Samantha Lenton was agonisingly close to winning the U/18 discus event, falling 2cm short to take the Silver medal with a throw of 48.25m. With a silver medal in the U/18 Hammer and bronze medals in the U/18 shot and U/20 discus, the 2016 Athletics Captain had an incredible 5 days of competition.

Not to be outdone, Ellie Bowyer won Gold in the U/17 Javelin with a throw of 48.23m and competed against athletes three years older to win the silver medal in the U/20 Javelin. Ellie also secured the bronze medal in the U/17 discus. The results firmly cement Fairholme's Head Throws Coach Graham Pitt position as the leading throws coach in Australia after his two senior athletes Lara Nielsen and Matt Denny also won their events at the Perth Track Classic on the weekend.
