Fairholme Netball champions win Laura Geitz Shield undefeated!
Blasting through the tournament at the Clive Berghoffer Stadium, Fairholme College took on Goondiwindi State High School in the final, and won 19 – 4, taking out the Darling Downs Competition from a record number of school entries for 2016.
The Laura Geitz Shield aims to provide young netballers from the Darling Downs with the opportunity to participate in organised sport. It is hoped that this competition will encourage them to continue playing sport for their school and/ or club. To participate in the competition players need to be currently enrolled in year 7, 8 or 9 at a Darling Downs High School.
Having Laura Geitz, captain of both the Firebirds and the Australian Diamonds, stand courtside definitely adds to the excitement as the girls get the chance to play in front of their idol.
Strong team skills built on a good foundation and team bonding certainly paid off for the 2016 Fairholme team. In addition to their thrilling games, this marks the second year in a row as winners of this outstanding competition for Fairholme – a great final victory!
