Outside School Hours Care (OSHC)
Hall-Thorpe Sports is a Toowoomba outside school hours care organisation, designed to address the growing need to provide a quality outside school hours care service. Currently, Hall-Thorpe Sports provides its services to a range of schools in the Toowoomba and surrounding areas. The goal of Hall-Thorpe Sports is to focus on the four developmental movement concepts which are essential to learning patterns during early/middle childhood: Body Awareness; Effort Awareness; Space Awareness; and Relationship Awareness.
This program is available on campus at Fairholme College: before school (6:30am – 8:30am); after school (2:30pm to 6:00pm), and vacation care (at this stage, only during the private school holiday period). There are other off campus options still operated by Hall-Thorpe Sports fully available to Fairholme college students).
The outside school hours care program is fully available to Fairholme College children from Kindergarten until year 12. This outside school hours care program provided will include all children together in one group, however will offer parallel programming for the smaller Kindergarten children. Hall-Thorpe Sports offers a range of quality services including:
- Free specialty sport and activity clinics available to all children enrolled in outside school hours care. The clinics change every term, in order to provide variety;
- A range of stimulating activities for children who only enjoy limited sport or who already have a number of sporting commitments;
- Nutritious afternoon tea;
- Quality programing provided by qualified educators and Early Childhood specialists;
- Child Care Benefit Approved (this includes Kindergarten children).
The relationship between learning and the development of motor skills is well documented. Research shows that children who play sport and are physically active, are more likely to have improved learning and more positive education outcomes. Within this framework then, outside school hours care programs such as Hall–Thorpe Sports, which engage students in physical activity, are more likely to see benefits across a range of areas, including physical and psychological well being, and scholastic improvement.
