Fairholme Old Girls' Association (F.O.G.A.) was formed in 1921 and over the years has taken an active interest in both the Past Students of the College as well as the present day girls that are now attending. A never ending search is being maintained to locate Past Students who have changed addresses and/or names in order to keep us in touch with our Fairholme family and to update our database constantly.

Archival Mysteries - Answers
Thanks so much to those who helped out with our questions regarding the photograph below of characters from the play ‘Quality Street’ by JM Barrie.
Pictured from left to right are: Stephanie Schofield (Munro 1918-1924); Jean Townsend (Smart 1921-24); Kathleen Smithwick (1924- 25); Jean Bryant (Cunningham 1923-24); Sylvia Couper (Bernays 1922-25)
Archival Mysteries - A new challenge
Can you help us with these questions regarding the ‘F’ banner being carried during a 1945 sports carnival.

Over 1000 separate items from Fairholme’s past have now been cleaned, accessioned and stored in the Fairholme FOGA archives room. Thanks to the generosity of Fairholme Old Girls, we have some amazing treasures from the 1920s.
These include a 1923 school magazine, some original Fairholme crockery and two silver trophy cups. Another unique item is an original Order of Service from August 1945, when the Combined Churches of Toowoomba held a Thanksgiving Service at the end of World War II - and it is autographed by some Grammar boys!
Our most recent project has been the restoration and framing of the ‘F’ for Fairholme sports banner. Metal curtain rings sewn on the reverse of the banner enabled it to be threaded on to a pole and carried proudly at inter- school sports events (we are led to believe). The rusty rings have been removed and the banner has been cleaned and framed. This ‘one-of- kind’ banner is now on display in the FOGA archives foyer.
As this is an Olympic Games year, an upcoming Fairholme archives display will include items from Fairholme’s Olympians - Watch this space!
Thank you to everyone who has contributed information about Fairholme’s Head Girls, Head Boarders and Head Daygirls. Gradually, the pieces of the puzzle are falling into place, although it remains ‘a work in progress’ - and very much part of the Fairholme story being preserved through the Archives Collection.

F.O.G.A. meetings are now held in the FOGA Foyer Meeting Room, on the third Wednesday of each month (excluding school holidays) at 4.00pm, and we would love to see some new Old Girls come along and join our small but enthusiastic group who regularly plan our activities as fresh ideas are always welcome and we would love to have your input. If you would like more information please contact Fairholme Old Girls' Association at foga@fairholme.qld.edu.au

The much anticipated Compactus storage and filing system has been purchased and installed in the Archive area of the new Junior School Library. Since the arrival of the compactus, resident Archives co-ordinator Mrs Jenny Noble has moved her office to the archives workspace in the Junior School Library and all items in the archives collection have been sorted boxed and moved.
The Fairholme Old Girls Foyer will continue to be the primary display area, but all archival work and storage is now housed in the Junior Library.
Two Bursaries were presented on Founders Day. The Phyllis Lovell Memorial Bursary for the Year 12 (daughter of an Old Girl) who has made the best all round contribution to College life was presented to Cleannah Sweeney, the daughter of Mrs Kate Sweeney (1976-80). The Bursary for the direct descendant of an Old Girl who received the highest Year 10 pass the previous year was presented to Hannah Jannush, daughter of Mrs Jocelyn Jannush (1979-83). Hilda was a boarder at Fairholme in the 1920’s.

On Speech Day the Daisy Culpin Prize for Leadership & Work (Gift of Brisbane FOGA) was awarded to Melinda Simmons and the Jean Tassie Memorial Prize for Dux of Year 11 (Gift of Toowoomba FOGA) was awarded to Lucy Hempenstal.
The FOGA archival team are highly excited about a recent acquisition; until now the College has not been in possession of a Spreydon Badge, and we are very proud and privileged that the Holmes family have entrusted us with this precious icon.
The badge was worn at Spreydon by Annie Hogg (nee Brodie)(1914) and then kept as a precious memento, to be handed down to daughter Mrs Marie Holmes (nee Hogg)(1946-48) herself a Fairholme old girl. Annie's granddaughter Kathy Stanley (Holmes)(1971-76) was the third generation to attend Fairholme.
Annie loved Music and was awarded the Junior Sports Champion in 1914. Marie was in the school athletics team and the 'A' school Tennis team. Kathy (Holmes) was also a champion athlete.
Marie - this badge is such a magnificent addition to our archives and we would like to sincerely thank you again. The badge has now returned 'home' and will be viewed and marvelled at by generations of Fairholme girls to come.
Your help in locating Past Students is invaluable. The Past Student listing allows you to instantly find the names of all Past Students including those whom we have been unable to locate. Through the FOGA Office you may also request contact with another Fairholme student. Personal information (other than name and year) is not disclosed in the listing. This facility is proving to be a very valuable tool as it is being extensively used to provide us with updated information as well as enabling many Past Students to reconnect with each other.
We do not have details or the years that the undermentioned Old Girls attended Fairholme. If anyone can help in this regard it would assist us greatly in being able to contact these Old Girls for Reunions and also to keep them in touch with the school and their former school friends.

We’re in the process of compiling a list of all Head Boarders and Head Daygirls, for the purpose of putting their names on an Honour Board in the future. Obviously, this information needs to be correct. The names listed here are ones we have been able to confirm from information in the school magazines and speech day programs in the archives collection. Can you help ‘fill in the gaps’?
Please contact our archivist, Jenny Noble at jenny.noble@fairholme.qld.edu.au or on 4688 4688 if you can confirm, correct or add to the names on the Head Boarder or Head Daygirl lists.
