The final Friday nights’ round game is at Harristown SHS Gym followed by semis and finals at St. Mary’s gym. Come along and support our girls. A big thank you also to Maddie Brazier who has refereed the Yr8 and 15yrs games. It is great to see budding officials begin their career - we need more of them.

If you would like to trial for one of these you must see me immediately. We are only permitted to send limited numbers to these trials - athletes must be of a suitable standard. I will decide if you are permitted to attend after consultation with coaches. If successful in these trials the DD cluster day is on Tuesday 16 March. This also includes the Orienteering trial.
Cross-Country:
Cross-Country season has begun. Our Cross-Country Coach Ms. McGuire is holding training sessions at various times. Please be aware that most of this running takes place off campus. Students are required to stay on the footpath at all times but will have to cross roads at intersections. You are required to sign in and out at each session. Asthmatics must bring and carry their medication otherwise you will not be able to participate.
The Toowoomba Road Runners will again hold their School Cross-Country Series this year. Dates for these and other runs are as follows: Monday 22 March - Fairholme Interhouse Cross-Country, Kearney’s Spring, Ruthven Street, from 9am; Sunday 28 March - Queens Park, Frogs Hollow, Margaret Street, 8am, 2,4 and 6km; Sunday 18 April - Newtown Park, Tor Street, 8am, 2,3,4 and 6km; Sunday 9 May - Captain Cook Oval, McGregor Street, 8am, 2, 3, 4 and 6km; Sunday 23 May - Kearney’s Spring, Spring Street, 8am, 2, 3, 4 and 6km; Tuesday 2 June - DD Regional Cross-Country, Kearney’s Spring, Ruthven Street, from 8.30am; and Saturday 12 June - Queensland All Schools Cross-Country, Kedron SHS, Brisbane, from 10am (tbd). Congratulations to our Yr8/9 Laura Geitz Shield team and coach Sasha McAlister! Last weekend they won this tournament defeating Goondiwindi SHS 18-9 in the final. The team was: Sharn Campbell, Ali Gee, Hannah Webster, Chelsea Hillier, Georgina Rackemann, Georgia Gierke, Belinda McLean, Honor Moore and Sarah Aljassim. Grading games begin this weekend for most of our teams who play in the Toowoomba Netball Association.
Please check with the Sports Department to see if your team is playing. At the moment, round times for this season are: 11am - Rd1 - 10, 11 and 12yrs; 12.15pm - Rd2 - 13 and 14yrs; 1.45pm - Rd3 - 15B, Div2 and Div4; and 3.25pm - Rd4 - 15A, Div1 and Div3. These are subject to change. A shuttle bus runs from the Boarding House each Saturday. There is a cost for this that will be charged to your account.
Association Football:
Fairholme College was guest club with Toowoomba Grammar at the opening Toowoomba Raiders home game for the season. The girls played a demonstration game in between the Reserves and Main game and were presented to the crowd at the end of the Main game. There was also a fastest Footballer sprint and penalty shooting competition. The Raiders put on refreshments for the Fairholme College parents who were in attendance. This year, for the first time, we have enough interest to field two teams in the Football Toowoomba competition. We are entered in the Fillies competition that will played mainly on Friday nights.
Touch:
Trials were held recently to pick squads for this year’s Cup competitions. Queensland All Schools and the All Hallows Invitational are two big tournaments for which we are aiming to compete.
Transport Levy for Association Sport:
All students who require transport by bus or taxi for Association Sport will be charged a transport levy. This charge will appear on your term account. In the past, all students requiring transport for Association Sport have been charged on an individual trip basis. This has proved a complicated and often inaccurate method. You will now be charged per season. There will be no charge for finals if teams progress that far. If there is an occasion during the season where you no longer require transport, either permanently or for a short while, then please contact the Sports, Boarding or Accounts Departments via email, fax or phone and the appropriate adjustment to the levy will be made. Please remember that the Sports Department has and will continue to heavily subsidise the cost of taxi and bus transport for Association Sport.
Association Sport Fees and Charges:
A reminder to all parents that there are fees and charges associated with association sports. These are passed on to us by each association. We pay these on your behalf and then charge your account. A reminder also that if your daughter withdraws during the season we cannot refund these fees and charges. Any attempt to gain a refund then becomes a matter between the association and you. Please make sure that you are aware of the sports in which your daughter participates. Seasons in Volleyball, Netball, Football, Touch and Hockey are about to begin. Seasons in Futsal and Water Polo are about to enter Finals.
Free Coaching Courses:
Sportrec Queensland is running this free course at Harristown SHS on Monday 12 April. The courses offered are in coaching: Athletics, Basketball, Football, Golf, Netball, Rugby Union, Softball, Swimming, Tennis, Touch and Volleyball; officiating: Cricket; and First Aid: Sports First Aid and Strapping. Recent Sporting News:
Middle School Netballers Celebrate Win
Winning Netball team with Laura Geitz, Australian Netballer and former Darling Downs representative.
After a round robin competition, our Year 8 & 9 Netballers successfully captured the Laura Geitz Netball shield on Sunday, February 28. The girls defeated Goondiwindi State High by 16 - 8 in their grand final match.
Importantly, Australian Netballer and former Darling Downs representative, Laura Geitz was on hand to present the shield and medallions to our players. She reminded all players that the most important aspects of Netball are participation and enjoyment.
To add to that, it was pleasing to see positive sportsmanship amongst all players from all schools. Congratulations to our Year 8&9 Netballers!
