What is the Prep Year?

It is a full-time year of schooling for young children and it replaces Pre-School. Prep at Fairholme will provide opportunities in open, spacious learning environments that support learning for young children through:

• Real-life situations
• Play
• Focussed learning and teaching events
• Routines and transitions
• Investigations

At Fairholme Prep we:

• will continue to provide rich, early childhood programs that were a feature of our Pre-school for the past ten years
• will build upon these successful programs through the implementation of the new Early Years Curriculum Guidelines
• have dedicated and experienced staff who are committed to, and have a passion for, Early Childhood education
• will have full time Teacher Assistants
• have a fully enclosed, outdoor playground area, with well equipped resources for age appropriate skill development
• have child sized toilets within the Centres
• have weekly sessions with specialist teachers in Music, Physical Education, Computing, Library and Christian Education
• will enhance further the learning experiences through excursions and incursions
• participate in the Junior School Interhouse Cross Country and Athletics Carnivals
• have a two week Swimming block in Term 3 with qualified Learn to Swim Instructors from the Fairholme College Indoor Swimming Centre
• offer sessions with the Fairholme College Tennis Coach in developing perceptual motor skills
• provide opportunities for participation in the P-3 end of year Musical
• operate Outside School Care and Vacation Care programs
• encourage strong partnership with parents through an open door policy, regular newsletters and parent discussion evenings

Enrolment details

Who can go to Prep? All children who turn five years of age by June 30 in the year that they would start Prep.

Entry is open to girls and boys. Co-education is available in the Early Childhood Centre.

The operating hours are Monday to Friday from 8.30 am to 2.45 pm.

Children attending the Prep wear the Fairholme Prep uniform which is available from the Fairholme College P+F Shop.
